This very attractive garden specimen has straight erect lower leafless light green culms covered with a white bloom when young. The unusual bronze culm leaf is covered in dark hairs near the base and has a cupped bronze blade prominent amongst the branchless leafless lower culms. Widely used for light construction and as a flavour imparting "skin rice" cooking bamboo. Also valued for mats weaving and basketry due to its splitting ability.
