The common name: "Punting Pole Bamboo" is common with B tuldoides which it resembles. Its thick-walled small-leafed erect green culms are marked with cream stripes on the basal nodes but turn gold with age. Shoots are purple tinged with light green stripes. Much used in China for farm tool handles, light pole structures, fishing rods, furniture and barge poles because of its strength. Identity confusion exists in Australia with B eutuldoides.
